1st Ekadashi of the year 'Shattila Ekadashi' on 14 Jan
NEW DELHI [Maha Media]: In the Hindu calendar, the Ekadashi tithi that falls in both the Shukla and Krishna Paksha every month is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Worshipping Lord Vishnu on these days is believed to bring great spiritual merit. Shattila Ekadashi is observed during the Krishna Paksha in the month of Magh. One of the most important aspects of this Ekadashi is the use of sesame seeds or til. It's believed that an offering of food made from sesame seeds to Lord Vishnu, helps in spiritual merit. It is also recommended to donate sesame seeds on this day. This fast is believed to invoke the blessings of Lakshmi Narayan and bring happiness and prosperity into one’s life.
"The name itself reveals its special importance: 'Shat' means six, and 'Tila' means sesame seeds (til). On this day, there is a tradition of using sesame in six ways.
