Kamika Ekadashi 2020: Tithi and Significance
The eleventh day in the lunar fortnight is considered auspicious according to the Hindu calendar. Referred to as Ekadashi, the eleventh day of Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the Moon) and Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the Moon) is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. And the Ekadashi that falls during Krishna Paksha in the month of Shravan as per the Vedic Lunar calendar is called Kamika Ekadashi. And the form of Vishnu that is worshipped on Kamika is known as Sridhar.
Kamika Ekadashi is considered to be as auspicious as conducting Ashwamedha Yagya. If someone worships Lord Vishnu with Tulsi leaves on the day of Kamika Ekadasi, the person gets free from Pitru Dosha. Kamika Ekadashi helps to attain salvation. As per one of the beliefs, if someone worships Lord Vishnu in the Shravan month, he/she gets blessed and gets significant benefits, by the grace of Lord Vishnu. If a person observes fast on the day of Kamika Ekadashi, he/she gets free from the sins. The Kamika Ekadasi fulfills the desires of the devotees.

Kamika Ekadashi Tithi
The Ekadashi Tithi begins at 10:19 PM on July 15 and ends at 11:44 PM on July 16.
Significance:
The importance of the Ekadashi Vrat has been narrated by none other than Lord Krishna himself to the Pandava King Yudhishthira. The Lord says that those who keep a fast on Kamika Ekadashi shall rid themselves of the guilt of all the sins they have committed. And by sincerely surrendering to the Lord, they shall be able to secure a place in his divine abode, Vaikuntha. Therefore, the purpose of observing this fast is to leave behind the baggage of misdoings and move on the path of Dharma. Moreover, since this Ekadashi falls during the auspicious month of Shravan, it holds a greater significance. Lord Vishnu and Shiva worship each other, and therefore, those praying to the two deities shall get blessed by them.
Celebrations and Rituals:
Devotees take a bath early in the morning and then pray to Lord Vishnu. Panchamrut Abhishek is offered to Lord Vishnu and worshiped with colorful flowers, Tulsi leaves, fruits, milk and sesame seeds. Devotees fast on this day, donate lamps, clothes, and money to Brahmins. They keep Jagaran on Ekadashi night and spend their time in singing bhajans and reading Holy Scriptures. Devotees break their fast on Dwadashi, which is the next day of the Ekadashi.
Visiting various pilgrim centers and taking a bath in a holy river are a common ritual on this day. Abhishek, puja, aarti and bhajans are performed in Vishnu temple throughout the day. Lamps are lighted, and a variety of Bhog is offered to Lord Vishnu in these temples. Devotees worshiping Lord Vishnu on Kamika Ekadashi are blessed, with prosperity and health. It also relieves devotees from Pitru Dosha and helps in attaining salvation. It is believed that devotees who fast and performs night vigil on Kamika Ekadashi never experiences the anger of Yamaraj, the God of Death.
