Significance of worshipping Tulsi plant every day
Hindus regard the Tulsi plant as the holiest of all. Most of the Hindu households have a Tulsi plant, and people worship it every day after taking a bath. Tulsi, also known as Vrinda, is a Goddess and a consort of Shri Vishnu. Therefore, she is always associated with festivals related to the various avatars of Vishnu, the one who sustains lives on this planet. According to some beliefs, Tulsi is a manifestation of Goddess Lakshmi on earth.
Why do people worship Tulsi?
There are a variety of reasons associated with the worship of the Tulsi plant. The Tulsi or the Vrinda is believed to be the gateway to heaven or Vaikuntha, the abode of Lord Vishnu. And therefore, she helps devotees in getting closer to their ultimate goal, Moksha (liberation from the vicious cycles of birth, death and rebirth).
The different parts of the Tulsi are believed to be the abode of various deities and sacred texts of Sanatana Dharma. Moreover, since she is believed to be a physical incarnation of the Goddess Lakshmi, she is worshipped every day for peace and prosperity.
Moreover, the sacred plant helps people eliminate Vastu Dosha, if any. In ancient households, a Tulsi plant would also find a special place for worship. People would do parikrama (circumambulate) to pay their respects to the Goddess. The presence of Tulsi helps in warding off evil and negativity.
And last but not least, the Tulsi plant has healing powers. The plant has medicinal properties, and therefore, is it used to fight common cold, cough and other diseases. Moreover, it helps in boosting the immune system.
How to perform Tulsi Puja every day?
* Clean the surroundings.
* Light an oil lamp.
* Offer water the Tulsi plant while holding the Kalash with both the hands.
* Then offer kumkuma and haldi followed by flowers and incense.
Circumambulate while chanting the following shloka.
Tulasi kananam yatra yatra padmavanaani cha
Vasanti vaishnava yatra thathra sannihitho hari
Pushkaraadhyaani theerthani Gagadhya sarithas thatha
Vaasudeva dayo devaa vasanthi thulasivane
Praseetha tulasi devi praseetha hari vallabe
Ksheerotha mathanoth boothe tulasithvam namamyaham
Conclude the puja by chanting the Tulasi Vandanam
Tulasi sri sukhe subhe paapa haarini punyathe
namasthe naradha nuthe namo narayana priye
